Not a translator? You can still help.
If you're taking the survey in a language other than English and something feels off — a weird phrase, a mistranslation, anything that doesn't sound right — let us know.
Just send a quick email with the sentence that felt wrong. You don't need to fix it yourself, but you can give us your suggestion or description of what feels wrong — we'll take it from there and will try to improve the wording.
What we need
WhatIsMusic2U is a global music survey — anonymous, ad-free, and built with care. The AI generates a first-draft translation, but only a native speaker can make it feel right. That's where you come in.
We're looking for native speakers who can proofread our AI-generated translations. You don't need to translate from scratch — you review what's there and fix what doesn't sound natural in your language.
The survey covers emotions, identity, and personal stories about music. Getting the tone right matters more than technical accuracy — we need people who feel the language, not just speak it.
Languages we need
Here's where we stand. If your language says "We need you" — we really do.
How it works
We built our own translation tool. No spreadsheets, no back-and-forth emails. You get a clean interface, context for every string, and full control.
Our translation tool — English source on the left, your language on the right, context and notes for every string.
What you get
We want to be upfront: we can't pay you. We're two people funding this out of our own pocket, with no investors and no ads. What we can offer is genuine gratitude, permanent recognition, and the knowledge that you helped bring music's story to the world in your language.
What we ask
Let's be honest — this is real work. Roughly 850 strings, most of them short (button labels, headings, survey answers), but the longer ones are about feelings, identity, and music. They need someone who gets the nuance. It's not a five-minute favour, and we respect that.
We estimate about 6–10 hours of total work, depending on how much the AI got right for your language. You can do it in one sitting or spread it over a week — entirely up to you.
All we need: you're a native speaker of the language, you speak English too, you have a few hours to spare, and you care enough about getting it right. That's it.
For your first session, we'll have a short online meeting together. You'll get your personal login, a walkthrough of the tool, and we'll make sure you feel comfortable before you start. No one gets dropped into this alone.
Ready to help?
Send us an email with your name, your language, and a short note about yourself. We'll get back to you within a few days with a meeting request for you to start.
